Youngest winner in World Rallycross Supercars from Latvia Reinis Nitišs ready for Shell Helix Rally EstoniaYoungest winner in World Rallycross Supercars from Latvia Reinis Nitišs ready for Shell Helix Rally Estonia
Reinis Nitišs, FIA World Rallycross Championship bronze medal winner in 2014, will start in Shell Helix Rally Estonia. One of the most widely known motorsport drivers in Latvia has been participating in rallies before and this forms a good change between rallycross events. In 2018 Nitišs is competing in FIA European Rallycross Championship and is currently leading the Supercar category – with three out of five rounds still to be raced. In Shell Helix Rally Estonia Nitišs will start with Neiksans Rallysport run Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X car and his co-driver will be Andris Mālnieks.
Nitišs made history in 2014 in his first season in FIA Rallycross World Championship when he won a round in Norway. He became youngest winner in World Rallycross Supercars, at 18 years and 6 months. He has also experience in rallies as he has been starting both Latvian Rally Championship and European Rally Championship rounds in Latvia. The pace has been good as he has reached TOP 6 places overall.
Reinis Nitišs: “This season a lot of effort has been put on rally driving to further increase the level of my racing skills; thus, I am overly satisfied that the collaboration with Rally Estonia worked out well. Many thanks to Sportland Latvia that proved to be great partner ensuring I will have an opportunity to test myself in conditions outside my usual range. Besides that, several WRC drivers are also competing at the event, so it will be great to see them at the service park, have some chat there, and exchange experience. Who knows, maybe someone is willing to join me at the rallycross for an event or two – world is always full of surprises!
Urmo Aava: “It is important for us to have Latvian rallycross star Reinis Nitišs participating in Shell Helix Rally Estonia. He has shown good results in the rallies too despite the fact he hasn’t done many events. Latvia is very important market for us and so is our focus to have known and fast drivers from Latvia in our entry list. I welcome all the fans from Latvia to cheer Reinis and Andris competing against top drivers.”
Shell Helix Rally Estonia entry list tops with three crews from WRC series: Ott Tänak-Martin Järveoja (Toyota Yaris WRC), Hayden Paddon-Seb Marshall (Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC) ning Craig Breen-Scott Martin (Citroen C3 WRC).
The official opening and award ceremony will take place in Tartu, the second biggest city in Estonia. Tartu is an entertainment centre of Shell Helix Rally Estonia and the main artist of the official concert is Russian superstar Nyusha.
Otepää which is known as a winter resort offers great opportunities for the technical centre of the rally. Service park and HQ are located in Otepää at Tehvandi Sport Centre. Besides Tartu, Elva hosts another Super Special and the gravel stages in South-Estonia are considered as the best in the country.
Shell Helix Rally Estonia rally passes are on sale in online store on www.rallyestonia.com and in all Circle K stations all over Estonia.
Shell Helix Rally Estonia held on 13-15 of July is a round of Estonian and Latvian rally championships and FIA European Rally Trophy.
